Scense Environments consisting of just one Scense Server are easily to upgrade. Just run the setup, choose for upgrade and follow the instructions. This will upgrade the Scense Server and the Scense Database as well.
However in larger environments with multiple Scense Servers in combination of Server Clustering (Network Load Balancing for instance) the upgrade will take some more effort.

Update instructions

These are the 6 steps to be taken:

  • 1. Change the Site Parameter “EngineLocation”
  • 2. Disable Server Clustering
  • 3. Upgrade a Scense Server and the Scense Database using the normal method
  • 4: Upgrade the other Scense Servers manually
  • 5. Re-configure and activate Server Clustering
  • 6. Change the Setup Parameter “EngineLocation” back to the name of the cluster
1. Change the Site Parameter EngineLocation

Choose one of the Scense Servers you want to upgrade normally with the setup. Then change with the Scense Explorer the Site Parameter “EngineLocation” to this particular Server name.

2. Disable Server Clustering

Regarding your Server Clustering  Technique, carry out the appropriate tasks to disable Server Clustering.

3. Upgrade a Scense Server and the Scense Database using the normal method

The first Scense Server of your multiple Scense Server Environment can be upgraded normally using the Setup:

  • Log on to the Scense Server which name you just used to change the Site Parameter “EngineLocation”
  • Run the Setup from the Scense 7.6 CD (ISO)
  • Choose for “Upgrade” and follow the instructions

This will result in:

  • An upgraded Scense Server
  • An upgraded Scense Database
  • A new job to deploy the new Scense Client
4: Upgrade the other Scense Servers manually

The other Scense Servers have to be updated manually because the Scense Database has allready been updated within the previous step.

  • Logon to the next Scense Server
  • Un-install Scense Server Components:

  • If “Scense Sever Components” is not listed, install from the old Scense 7.5 CD (ISO) the application: InstallersScense EngineScense Server.msi first, followed by the un-install.
  • Install from the Scense 7.6 CD (ISO) the application: InstallersScense EngineScense Server.msi
  • Start Component Services:

  • Delete from the folder “Components” the old component “Scense2_Engine.ScenseEngine”:

  • Install in the same folder “Components” the new component by selecting the file “Program Files (x86)Scensescense2_engine.dll”:

  • Start the Com+ Application “Scense Engine”:

5. Re-configure and activate Server Clustering

Regarding your Server Clustering  Technique, carry out the appropriate tasks to re-configure and activate Server Clustering.

6. Change the Setup Parameter “EngineLocation” back to the name of the cluster

To take advantage of the Server Clustering again change the Site Parameter “EngineLocation” back to the name of the cluster.
